Am i infected
« on: October 13, 2009, 12:59:26 AM »
I know im probably being just paranoid  becuase avast found a virus installed on my system a few weeks ago but am i infected?
A quick scan with both windows defender and mbam show nothing. I go to tools in windows defender into software explorer and nothing odd in startup or currently running programs. I go into SAS and go to custom scan and ONLY SCAN: startup locations, memory, registry and cookies. Thats clean too. All security programs run fine. No warnings.
Vista 64bit: what i want to know IS MY RAM USAGE NORMAL as im typing this firefox is using 48k and my memory in preformance tab of taskmanager is 1.32 gb. In the corner it says Physical memory:34% i have 4 gb of ram.

For Vista Computers, that would be still part of the normal bracket.

I would say that is unusually 'low' 48k as in KB, even 48MB for firefox might be considered low for some people, depends on how many add-ons you have installed and if you are using any themes. Not forgetting how many tabs you have opened.

See image for my firefox usage, am I concerned, no that is what RAM is there for to be used. Having 4GB of RAM and being worried about it being used kind of negates the point of having 4GB.

hi newbie here...

i think the best thing you can do is to reformat your computer...my brother always do that when our computer is infected with the virus.

Hi newbie, that is not good advice even sometimes when we couldn't figure out the trouble. But we need to know, what is cause of this problem too.

Hi there,

Each AV vendors, they develop different database and virus/malware virus file. So what does you need to make sure whether your PC got infected or not :
1. Please check in to your system, like : Registry (Type Regedit), Start up Tool (Type MsConfig), Task Manager (Windows Task Manager)
2. You can use 3rd party software to scan your notebook/PC, like : Super Anti Spyware, Malware Bytes, HijackThis, some trusted tools

If you have found, what is the main problem..i think it is more fun and satisfied yourself.
That is the art in antivirus worlds....  ;D
