Do I need any more security?
« on: June 07, 2004, 07:13:59 PM »
I am running XP Home Edition latest patches installed, my antivirus software is Avast 4.1 Home Edition, and My Firewall is Sygate Personal Firewall 5.5 build 2525. I also regularly run Spybot, Adware and Bitdefender online.  My system setup runs smoothly and I have not had the problems that other Avast users have experienced using Sygate.  Without being toatally paranoid about security, what other software protection should I consider installing and why?

Any advice on this subject would be much appreciated!

you could always add Javacools spywareblaster and spywareguard.

I also use Robin Keir's ScripTrap

PS its all freeware...

I will add just:
SpyWare Blaster
SpyWare Guard

or, replacing them, SpyBot 1.3 with teatimer (resident protection)
Oh, I forgot, you must have some script blocker too (take a look on the Links on my signature)  ;)

Thanks for your quick replies,

Just two quick questions:

1.  Does the script blocker replace the one missing from Avast, I thought about upgrading to the professional version as the three year licence is great value is this a better option?

2. Are the Adware/Spy programs that you recommend because they are resident active, is this likely to slow my system down?

between spywareblaster and spywareguard, the only on that runs in the background is spywareguard. So spywareblaster uses no resources.

To All,

I must give credit where the credit is much do.

Technical has done many things for us here from his compilation of very useful links, to the new FAQ section, to his detailed Norton removal instructions and other such "projects".

Not only have I used his "sources", but have recommended them to other users both in and outside the forum.

Everyone has come back to me with high praise for his efforts.

Technical....I applaud you!   ;)
