Infected?
« on: June 08, 2004, 02:59:10 AM »
Ok My little girl uses Limewire 3.6.15. And she has Avast HE on her computer but never ran a scan or updated the program (Database was uptodate thanks to auto update but she still had 4.0.xxx!!) so I updated to the current version and ran a quick scan avast found a virus

Win32.Trojen.Gen{VC}

Path

C:\Program Files\LimeShop\LimeShop1.exe

Trend's Housecall does NOT report this as infected neither does the Command on Demand Scanner.  But to be sure I put it in the chest.

The file is the adware Topmoxie. It displays advertising in popup windows. This program have to be installed manually and it can be uninstalled standard way Add/Remove programs.
I don't think it's precisely false alarm, but detection of this program is really questionable. We probably will stop detection of it.

Yup,avast! has extended detection into spyware too :)
First such file detected by avast! was gmt.exe in Overnet package (not in 0.53)

I don't think avast should get rid of any adware detection.
For me, I want all the protection I can get ;)
(caught one last night-thank you avast!)

I don't think there is anything questionable about this POS. Its doing something against user will and should be detected.

Many spyware removal tools and AVs detect it.
