Email message
« on: June 08, 2004, 01:48:36 AM »
Avast used to enter a message in my email that the outgoing email was 'clean' and a message that incoming mail was also clean.  It has stopped doing it.  I have tried everything but can not get those messages inserted in my emails.  Help!

Code46,

Before we go into panic mode... ;) Let's check in the Internet Mail module settings.
Right click on the A ball and open up the OnAccess Protection....
then find the Internet Module on the left and click on it.
Now go into Customize and check the tabs for POP, IMAP and SMTP to see if the "Insert note....box" is checked for each protocol.

If the boxes are checked, then we will try an Avast repair (not an install!).

Let me know.

All the options to insert message are enabled.  What are the 'repair' options?

code46,

Go into the Control Panel and then to Add/Remove.
Find where Avast is listed and double click on the entry.

A box should open listing various options.  One of them is Repair.

Click on "Repair" and let Avast check and repair any damaged files it finds.  Reboot and check the email again.
You can send an email to yourself.

Let me know the result.

code46,

Um, very strange.  Do you use any other type of antivirus software on the computer? Any filters? Does your ISP use any type of antispam tool?

Just looking for other possibilities before I say to reinstall.

That may be the easiest thing to do at this point.

Use Control Panel/Add-Remove.
Reboot,
then reinstall Avast.

If you choose to reinstall, then run a PROGRAM update.
This updates both program and vps database at the same time.

Ill be here,
Techie

None of the items you mention apply.  The only thing, and I do not know if it applies, is that I upgraded my system from Intel to an AMD 2600xp chip.  So far I have not noticed any problems with any applications.  Could this be the first?  By the way when the messages were working, by going to the sent mail folder in OE you could see the inserted 'clean' virus message right in the text of the email.  By the way, I really appreciate your help and concern to my problem.

Mail in Sent Mail folder does not contain the inserted message, because the message is inserted after the mail leaves OE. If there is the 'clean' message in some mail in Sent Mail folder, it is probably mail that you replied to and kept the original text with some previously added message.
