"Making a mail server work with Avast" help
« on: June 07, 2004, 01:15:22 AM »
I have mail express pro which is my smtp mail server, I have tried to manually configure but I am doing something wrong.Every time avast starts up I get the message that another program is using port 25. Does anyone know how to put avast between my mail client and my mail server. I have opened the the avanst4.inj file and tried changing the mail-sever setting but I am not sure if I add and new line or change the existing default setting.

Thank you for any help,

Morgan

Hello, Morgan. Wellcome  8)
Can you try a look at the link 'avast settings' bellow on my signature.
There is a section [MailScanner] into avast4.ini file with a lot of explanation.
I need to go out now, maybe I come back later.
Good luck  8)

Thank you for a quick reply, I have been playing with this for 1 hour now. I know it must be simple but I can not get it to work. ???

This is what I did, but it still will not work. I get the message port 25 in in use and in the inbound. I set my mail client to 127.0.0.1:26 but it will not send.It works when I set it to 127.0.0.1 but it does not scan outgoing messages. I tried putting SmtpListen=127.0.0.1:26 in several places.

SMTPPort=26
SmtpListen=127.0.0.1:26
below

[MailScanner]
DefaultPopServer=pop.blabla.com
DefaultSmtpServer=localhost
SmtpListen=127.0.0.1:26
ShowTrayIcon=1
UseDefaultSmtp=0
AutoSetProtection=0
[Splash]
KeyUsage=1

Thanks again for any help :)

[MailScanner]

DefaultSmtpServer=localhost
SmtpListen=127.0.0.1:26
ShowTrayIcon=1
UseDefaultSmtp=0
AutoSetProtection=0

It is OK. Now set your mail account this way:
SMTP server: 127.0.0.1
SMTP port: 26
username for outgoing mail: #127.0.0.1
