Avast doesn't start automatically
« on: June 08, 2004, 03:56:45 PM »
Hello All,

After installing Avast Home Edition, it prompted me to restart. After doing so it didn't load upon start up. How can I get Avast protection started?

Thanks

We will need more information to help.

Reboot and watch for any error messages (and make a note of them), relating to other Anti-virus programs installed.

Do you have another AV installed, did you uninstall a previous AV? There could be remnants and avast won't load to prevent a conflict between two AVs.

What OS are you using.

Visit the Off Topis Forum and READ the Users-FAQ thread, this could also help and will give you an idea of what we need to help.

I am using Xp and I just uninstalled Zone Alarm Security. I guess I'll have to check the registry. ( I am getting no errors)

Thanks

Did it do a boot scan (after installation and after reboot), prior to windows opening?

If not, it is not correctly installed, go to windows Start > Control Panel > Add remove programs, select avast!, when the uninstall/change process window opens, select repair and click OK. You will need to be on line to do this.

If that doesn't work you may need to uninstall fully, reboot and install again.
