Hi! We've been running Avast Home fine on my wife's notebook. McAfee subscriptions expired on our PC and my son's. Both running Windows XP SP3 (32-bit).
Deinstalled McAfee on both, installed Avast Home 4.8.1356 to both. Updated Avast as soon as it was in.
On our PC, no problems. But on my son's, it seems that when Avast is active, everything we try to run either starts up but then locks or doesn't start up at all. E.g. when I start Firefox, Task Manager shows it get up to 8MB of memory loaded and then it doesn't go any further. IE8 starts but eventually bogs down and becomes unresponsive. Eventually the Windows desktop stops responding. Avast seems to have all of its modules configured at default levels.
If I reboot the PC (have done so several times) and disable Avast on-access protection first, the above apps run fine.
I've de-installed and re-installed Avast twice, run Windows Update a few times, but this keeps happening. And only on his PC.
Any suggestions would be welcome! Thank you!
