What cloud antivirus to use?
« on: November 10, 2009, 08:51:42 PM »
Hi malware fighters,

I use Immunet Protect and am very, very satisfied with the way it functions and the detection accuracy,
but I also read about Panda Cloud AV: http://www.cloudantivirus.com/en/
What cloud av is better?
So I have gone for the following layered security protection next to Immunet Protect- avast resident av solution, Trend Micro RUBotted, SUPER AntiSpyware, MBAM, a-squared Free, Threatfire,  ThreatExpert Mem Scanner, MXOne USB-AV, SpywareBlaster, HJT, ESET SysInspector, ClearProg, ATF Cleaner, Secunia PSI,

Can't be too careful, eh Polonus?  ;D

Do you mean that you run all of those now? At the same time?

I'm surprised a computer would even run   :o

Hi Pondus and scythe944,

No off course these proggies do not run simultaneously on my old acer XP SP3. No Immunet Protect uses very little cycles, this Immunet Thingy is in the cloud and scans only on demand or when files download onto the computer, RUBotted sits there and checks, does not use much, avast is resident and uses quite some mem when a new av update is downloaded, same goes for Threatfire that is the final resident tool there,
a-squared free, MBAM, SAS, ThreatExpert Mem, MX One USB AV, ESET Sys Inspector, ClearProg and ATF Cleaner are not running and on demand scanners, I am paranoid enough to update them on a regular basis.
SpywareBlaster is just a zone protector and block tool.
So my actual resident av solution is a AV-ID trio:  avast + Threatfire + Immunet Protect,
Oh yes, and I have a fw,

I'm just jerkin' your chain!  ;D

Way too much for me to keep up on though.  Especially since I hop around between about 8 computers on a weekly basis.  All while testing things, tearing them down and re-building.  Now, if I only used one box, and used it for everything I do, I might just be as paranoid as you!

Hi scythe944,

I think you were one of the boys that took his own hard disk out and mounted that on his grannies computer just to have your familiar harddisk with you. Did I guess right?
Well paranoia there is nothing wrong with it as long as it is calculated paranoia, blind paranoia is destructive and wrong, well I think we all here are in the same class together  else we would be out here in the forums,

No, my granny never owned a computer.  My hard drives stay home, I don't need to take them with me.  ;D

This sounds like using two condoms. Too many apps spoil the computer. Seriously, Panda's latest Beta isn't ready for prime time.
Packard Motorcars said "Ask the man who owns one". They're not in business anymore.

Hi Corday,

Nobody in his sane mind wants to use two free in the cloud AV scanners at a time.
If you say that Panda isn't ready for outroll yet, is Immunet Protect better.
I know Immunet Protect is lean, mean, and suits me.
Is there anyone that have tested the so-called Panda revelation thingie  ;) ?

you're prompted to uninstall Avast in the end of the panda setup, otherwise no install, so I skipped it. There might be a way to trick it  ???

Isn't Panda promising more than it delivers?
Is it the panaceia?
Aren't we getting paranoid?

The solution is avast 5 ;D

Everyone says it is not good having two antivirus together etc....

Hi shiw liang,

You can have many av's together as long as they are NOT resident av's.
I have avast and clamwin non-resident, and DrWebCureIt and stinger.exe, no problem whatsoever.
We would never have bundled av then. Only two resident av solutions are gonna fight over each others detections/signatures like two dogs that have to guard but started to fight among each other. Avast with ClamWin and Immunet Protect and RUBotted is just like having avast with a couple of extra rear-mirrors to make you more secure....
