Hi,
Check your system date and time.
Check the Avast and database version, and post here, please.

(Right-click the tray icon, select "about Avast", then expand the first two entries to show the build version, and the VPS file version.)
Windows 10,Windows Firewall,Firefox w/Adblock.

Sometimes, Windows Security Center stops recognizing your antivirus or firewall... So, check your system time and date and also http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=23457.msg193534#msg193534

cyberwasp,
You are up to date; Avast appears to be auto-updating, go to the link posted above by Tech, check the second part of his post, to do with the procedure for Vista, carry out the instructions.
Windows 10,Windows Firewall,Firefox w/Adblock.

I tried Techs advice with no joy. I gathering that even tho windows security says tthere's no antivirus that avast is still protecting me. it updates at least twiuce a day. if so, I can live without security center knowing?

So you were able to delete the repository file OK, and rebooted?
Check in administrative tools>services that the security centre is on (I guess it must be or it wouldn't alert) and WMI is on, and both are set to automatic.
Sometimes two reboots are necessary.
Check in taskmanager and advise what avast processes are running, please.
