Supposed to be sometime this month.  Maybe next month if it doesn't work out.

That's a pessimist's view.

Me being an optimist I'll say November 26th 2 weeks from today.

No mater what date it is released it is fine update.

I was just guessing at a release date.

I would rather avast! release V5 when its ready than guess its ready.

Because it was just YoKenny's guess, not an official date.
We don't give any official dates. The product will be released as soon as it's ready to be released; once it is released, all our users will be notified by means of in-product messaging.

Thanks

EXACTLY!  Awesome!  That's what I personally want to hear.  I'd much rather avast 5 be delayed to December ... January or whatever it takes, rather than FORCE it out before it is ready.  If avast 5 cannot at this time protect our computers at the extreme least as well as what our latest avast 4.8 can, I wouldn't want it in my computer yet.  I don't care about the anticipation, the novelty.  If avast 5 would be a security risk right now vs. 4.8, then by all means keep it in development until it IS ready and CAN be an improvement over 4.8.  4.8 has done its job extremely well all this time.  No sense in needing to have the new kid on the block just for the sake of having it ... if it is NOT ready.

There's nothing worse than eagerly awaiting a New App of whatever and then finally getting it and realizing immediately that it is Bug-riddled and most definitely wasn't ready and should have never been released at that time.

I certainly agree with Chim, its counterproductive to release Avast 5 final before its ready. This is basically what beta testing is supposed to do, get the bugs and security holes out before the final release.

Sadly I can be fairly confident in saying as a beta release track record for any major software, that even after the final release of Avast 5, there will still be some required updates as bugs not uncovered in beta tests surface. And because I am still on dial up, and a 40 MB or so download is a fairly high hill for me to climb, I may hold off for a few weeks or so until I migrate to Avast 5 final.

Yep, Osage, no doubt even when avast 5 is finally released, there will be Bugs that require a Program Update.  Bugs come with the territory with New Software releases.  The difference is when a Software Release is seriously flawed and in the opinion of the majority of Users, inferior to its predecessor.  It's like when Opera 9.5 was released, there was a HUGE outcry and major disappointment.  Most people, me included, preferred its predecessor Opera 9.27.  Opera 9.5 was NOT ready to be released when it was released.

So, that's what I hope does NOT happen with avast 5.
