Many def updates lately?
« on: November 11, 2009, 05:35:14 PM »
For the last week or so I've seen (and I presume everyone else has, too) at least 2 new def updates each day, and even 3 on one of the days IIRC.  It's been ages since the last time I remember that many so rapidly.

Are we currently under a flare-up of new malware attacks?  Plus, presumably, some of those updates will probably have included the odd FP which needed fixing.

Just curious.

We switched to standard 2 updates daily, plus more if needed.
I.e. we basically added one new update a day, compared to the previous situation.

Thanks, vlk.   :)  I've been around long enough to remember when your standard was 1 update a week when things were dead-quiet "out here" and only major outbreaks (or FPs, of course) necessitated more frequent updates.

Or what if the same single update issued once a day is split up into two or more so that we "feel" more secure.  ??? and a new marketing strategy. - just an opinion.. (no worries).

If you keep your PC off during the day and power it on only at nights, it truly doesn't matter much for you how frequently are the new samples delivered as long as they are ready before you power on. Things may be different for others though.

Calendar of Updates gives us a good picture about how often the databases of major anti-malware software are updated.  Avast seems to be rather behind in this area.  :(  However, there are something to be considered behind these numbers.  For example, AntiVir definitely updates often but, in practice, I think the scarcity of their servers nullifies the effect to some extent.
