Anti-Spyware Software along with Avast 5
« on: November 30, 2009, 05:48:34 AM »
Is there any Anti-Spyware software that I can run beside Avast 5 beta 3?

I wish to run it beside Avast without causing any problems.

Hi Chris...

For on demand scanning, there is Malwarebytes. If you want to also include real time scanning, there is Windows Defender and Ad Aware. If you have Windows Vista or 7, you already have Windows Defender. ;)

Don't forget SpywareBlaster as well. :)

I've also been giving Immunet Protect a run. It seems to work well and although it is said it can do well on its own, it is designed to work alongside a "regular" antivirus program. It's one of the newer programs that moves a lot of its functions to the "cloud" (server side,) like Panda's new Cloud Antivirus.

Perhaps others on here will have other recommendations.

God bless... :)

Tested it with Prevx, Malwarebytes, SAS and Hitman Pro and they all run fine without problems

I recently downloaded a Trojan downloader by mistake thinking it to be a crack for eboostr (forgive me for downloading pirated versions) :-[

Avast didn't detect it even after I scanned the file manually. Avast does a bad job detecting spyware. >:(

I've already installed Immunet and it too failed to detect it. >:(

So I installed Malwarebytes and it detected it.

What I really need is a real time scanner not standalone. Any advise?

Iobit security 360 would be a good choice as a realtime antimalware. But it has lost reputation due to recent events. So many will not recommend it. Why don't you use panda cloud antivirus.

Panda is useless.

Did u tried it after the stable release? I know it has a bad heuristics with 'suspicious' files. But it did detect some real malware when avast failed. But without internet connection it is sort of useless.

Hi Chris...

The only other ones that I can think of are the free version of ThreatFire and SpywareTerminator. With the latter, Choose version 2.3 and don't install the toolbar. ;)

May God bless you :)

I installed IObit becoz I heard from download.com that they have cleared their name in wrong doings.

Are you sure that Spyware Terminator can work beside Avast without causing any interference? Why version 2.3, there is 2.6?

God Bless ;D

Another very good alternative is spybot-search & destroy. It has immunisation feature, realtime protection & more.

But spybot has some resource problem with running real time protection, but Iobit is fine in this respect.

Hi Chris...

The impression I'm getting is that there are less bugs and problems with version 2.3.

God bless :)

+1

WinPatrol is a Security Monitor that runs well with avast!

IOBit is still rogue in my view.

@ardvark

Ad-Aware has not kept up with the latest malware and is now not worth the hard disk space it consumes.
