A display bug distantly related to yesterday's incident.
« on: December 04, 2009, 02:41:12 AM »
Hi!

One of my machines, on which I'm running 4.8, has an 19 inch screen running at 800x600 resolution.  (I don't know who set it that way, and I realize that this is odd these days.)

When yesterday's signature file incident occurred, I felt immediately that it was an FP, so I hit the report-an-FP link on the detection report screen.  The FP report window was too tall for my monitor;  the buttons were below the bottom border of the screen, and therefore unusable.

Thanks.
C.

No I don't think this is related, if you use safe mode the resolution switches to 800x600 and 256 colours, but should switch back to normal resolution.

You should be able to reset your display resolution.

I don't want to reset my resolution.  Also, if I remember correctly, I have never booted that machine into safe mode.

I merely wanted to inform the Avast tech people that that screen is unusable under those conditions.

Thanks.

What you mean you are going to leave it at 800x600.

Yes I can imagine that at 800x600 the windows will appear even larger.

You can also right click on the tab on the task bar and select move, that allows you to use the cursor keys to move the window up down right or left.

@Cassy

Today most sites are geared to 1024x768 resolution and a 19" screen is well capable or running at that resolution.

My old XP Pro system has a 15" LCD screen that I run at that resolution.
My Windows 7 system has a 17" LCD screen that I run at 1280x1024 that shows more information.

Even my old XP Home system that I sold that had a 17" CRT monitor I ran at 1024x768.

Hello cassy,

check in the log file whether the display drivers were flagged as virus, and were they were moved to chest. if so try to restore back. or re install the graphics driver.

thanks
