Seems like it would have been easier to reset default Explorer from it's properties screen. Am I wrong on that thought??

It would depend on what the malware had done as potentially it could have disabled that function or access to the properties completely.

Hi guys. :)

I just came from my cousins house and I got their IE issue straightened out. Apparently, they had some kind of malware issue that screwed up IE.  :-\ Anyway, I ran ComboFix and(of course downloaded the Windows Recovery Console) and that fixed the issue. :D IE now downloads and such like it's supposed to Yay!!

Anyway, thanks for all the suggestions. :)

Hi...

You're welcome, glad we could help :)

God bless :)

Re: XP Pro Internet Explorer Unable to Download Files also on vista

I appologise for lack of knowlege & experience but I also have the same issue with IE8 on vista. I have been unable to
save any download since my AVAST trial period is expired about a month ago.
I have disabled my antivirus software  again it appears to download but  when I try to Run the box closes & nothing happens.
I hav e tried system restores but they are all to recent so do not fix the problem
Can anyone suggest any simple ideas as I'm now sure I have a virus as system is crawling.

thanks

Check your computer for Malware with

MBAM http://filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
update and run quick scan, click the button "remove selected" to quarantine anything found, and restart

SAS http://filehippo.com/download_superantispyware/

Thanks I have previously registered and have inserted the activation key but when I try to run
I get  AAVM subsystem detected a RPC error.

I had stopped AVAST on vista control panel but I then get program can not activate resident part (standard shield provider not present)
I had previously tried to uninstall AVAST but this had failed.

Regards malware site, that for the lin,k but as before appears to download the file but when I try to run nothing happens.

sounds like you have a serious infection blocking the download
You should ask for help in the Virus and Worm section http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=4.0
Maybe Oldman or Essexboy can look at your case
