I need to know what are the differences (if any) between the professional and home editions of avast.

and can you PLEASE make avast remove the damn conifiker virus...its damn annoying...also, do you know if this virus only spreads across a network, or does it spread through executables too?

I'm using Avast home. I follow this path to the Help file --

Start--> (My) Computer--> local disk C:--> Program Files--> Alwil--> Avast4--> English--> Help

At which stage I rightclick the Help file and select create shortcut. I copy the shortcut to my desktop so it is easily accessible. On the first page of the Help file, at end of page, the differences between Home and pro are outlined. (See screenshots).

There are a lot more virus than conficker. All antivirus (AV) and antispyware (A/S) companies take on responsibility for protecting users and networks from the threat of malware dissemination and perpetration. Alwil Software (avast) rate very highly in respect to the responsibility they take on, and the commitment they make to provide up to date protection for computers like the one you are posting from. You can be assured that they are doing their utmost to rid us of viruses like conficker and the rest. They do this on a 24 hour 7 days a week basis.

The best way is to not let Concfiker install in the first place by keeping your operating system up to date and keep avast!'s definitions current.

Current avast! is Build: Sep2009 (4.8.1368) with File version: 091215-0

If you are infected with Conficker it means your OS is not updated

Conficker http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conficker

QUOTE:
Security expert Roger Thompson notes that Conficker is not truly a consumer problem. He says, "The only people that have networks and who also don't patch are government, corporates and education users." And in truth your home system is a lot less likely to be hit than the county clerk's office.
