Problems with Avast

I use Avast Antivirus and most of the time it works ok, now and again it decides it wont work, I get the memory test and then nothing, I uninstall and reinstall and then it works, until tonight when it still wont work, does anyone have the same problem.

I am using Mozilla Firefox as my browser and Vista Business

Have (or did) you another Anti-Virus installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?

As what you mention is often associated with conflict, either with another AV or remnants of the previous AV.

I downloaded Avast as soon as I bought this computer, McFee was installed but I got rid of it by using Add and Remove Programmes

I think you need to take another step to ensure it is all gone.

You didn't say which McAfee version, so here are the various tools:
- McAfee has an uninstall tool that you could run to ensure any possible remnants are removed.
