Just curious about this. i guess those malware signatures do add up, unless you go part cloud.

I don't know where you are getting the 100MB figure from as the 400.vps file is only  31,378KB on my system and that contains the virus signatures ?

Well the full database manual downloaded is only just over 31MB, http://www.avast.com/eng/updates.html.

The whole avast4 folder and sub-folders is only 113MB on my system, this isn't all signatures.

The Cloud is about as much use as T*Ts on a bull when you are off-line, you still need signatures on the system.

Even the full program installation file is relatively small compared to some AVs. avast 5.0 will have a higher installed size, which includes ways to increase speed and the new features. However, hard disk size nowadays when compared to the huge hard disks is really tiny.

There are some supposed cloud solutions that are almost as large as avast, 70MB panda for one, some cloud huh ;D

Mine is 377Megs, the difference with the others probably because I've not cleaned the report or logfiles out since it was installed.
And it doesn't bother me in the slightest.
HDD space is cheap.

Why worry, it is still much higher than mine, which is 113MB. I don't have the vrdb enabled so that saves a lot. some log files may have reduced in size, you may or may not have cleared files from the chest, there are many permutations.

If avast is still working as expected don't go looking for trouble that isn't there.

I don't go looking for trouble, unless avast displays errors to the screen I let it get on with it. Had someone not started this topic, I wouldn't have bothered to check the size as to me it really is immaterial.

I also keep my nose out of the logs as they really aren't a great help for your average user, unless avast starts throwing up error messages to the screen I leave well alone.
