Process Lasso - The Windows Process Optimizer
« on: December 24, 2009, 02:09:56 PM »
Get this software here

http://www.bitsum.com/prolasso.php

Process Lasso is a unique new technology that will improve your PC's responsiveness and stability. Windows, by design, allows programs to monopolize your CPU without restraint -- leading to freezes and hangs. Process Lasso's ProBalance (Process Balance) technology intelligently adjusts the priorities of running programs so that badly behaved processes won't substantially impact the responsiveness of your PC.

Process Lasso also offers an assortment of ways to take full control of how your CPUs are allocated to running programs. You can choose at what priority processes should run, and which CPUs should be assigned to them. You can also disallow certain programs from running, log all programs run, automatically restart programs, and so much more.

Once you install Process Lasso, it'll just start working. More advanced users can tweak the configuration, but you needn't touch anything to have it instantly improve your system responsiveness and prevent stalls in high load situations.

Process Lasso runs on all editions of Windows 2000, XP, 2003, 2008, Vista, and Windows 7.

    * ProBalance dynamic priority optimization
    * Works great for desktops, laptops, and netbooks
    * Persistent priorities and CPU affinities
    * Instance count limits
    * Disallowed processes
    * Keep processes running (auto-restart)
    * Unique system responsiveness graph
    * Prevent PC sleep for designated processes
    * Differentiate between svchost.exe instances
    * Extremely low resource use
    * Stand-alone process management engine (uses as little as 1MB of RAM)
    * Both 32-bit and 64-bit builds for maximum efficiency
    * Event logging
    * MUCH more...

This looks interesting.I thought it was not free ware which in a way it is not.It says you can download it for free but if you decide not to pay it will offer a nag screen at start up which seems fair enough.It also says if you have difficulty in paying e mail them and they will see what arrangement they can come to with you.So they seem reasonable people.A similar approach as Sandboxie have.

             I have decided to bookmark this site for now and will look at it more in depth at a later date when I have more time.

I've tested Lasso in the past.
It always promised much more than it delivers...  :-\
The priority change does not work for *any* process, the impact is not real (effective), some processes can't be handled by Lasso.
I don't want to FUD, but I don't believe them... it's too good to be true...

That was long before

But now the product is very great

I tested it on my 256MB RAM xp and i find that it works great

It seems to have made my system more responsive and fast.

I tested it on my 6GB Ram and found  no difference

There is this forced mode- where you can reapply process prirorities and affinities if they change

Thanks, but no thanks.

I don't worry much about the process priority that much.. actually, that is the work of operating system. let it do its work.. I know it offers more features other than changing the priority.. but procexp is just enough for me. which is better than the normal task manager.

nothing against the OP or the application.

thanks

Hi folks,

We have some excellent tools under the hood: task manager, ESET SysInspector, HookExplorer, Process Monitor, a module inside ThreatFire named System Satus, dll Conflict Checker, API Monitor, API Spy and other forensic tools to analyze what processes run. Also excellent is ThreatExpert's memory scanner (they can try to hide but they will show signs there),

Only that changing priority of a process is not actually achieved, so this is why I've posted that it promises much than could deliver.
Some processes are protected by the operational system or even internally by other security features, so you can't handle them.

but tech may I ask, why do you want to change the process priority? is windows not capable of deciding for itself?

Well, changing the priority is what Process Lasso does. Why would I use Process Lasso for another thing? Ok... maybe there are others, but for me the major one does not work.
