Avast! 4.5 and POPFile AntiSPAM
« on: November 14, 2004, 03:23:13 PM »
Hello,

   Until the last Avast! version my Outlook Express was working perfect both with Avast! and POPFile 0.22.1. Now I got the following error message when Avast! email scan is enabled:

"Conta: 'Yahoo', Servidor: '127.0.0.1', Protocolo: POP3, Resposta do servidor: '-ERR Transparent proxying not configured: set secure server/port', Porta: 9110, Segura (SSL): Não, Erro do servidor: 0x800CCC90, Nº do erro: 0x800CCC91"

I read about reverting the settings to the original state. Well in my case the original state is the POP3 server set to POPFile at port 9110 as I was using before I try Avast!. Now with version 4.5 I receive the above messages every time Outlook try to check for new messages. I have the [MailScanner] section set as follow:

[MailScanner]
DefaultPopServer=127.0.0.1:9110
DefaultSmtpServer=127.0.0.1:25
ShowTrayIcon=1
UseDefaultSmtp=0
AutoSetProtection=0

But... to no avail. I can just receive email if I disable Avast! POP3 scan. What else should I configure in order to get Avast! working through a proxy like POPFile?

  Thanks!

In the Outlook Express account settings, what is your username? According to POPFile documentation:

.. if the original Incoming Mail server name was my.mail.com and your username was jdoe, your new username would be my.mail.com:jdoe

Hello Lukor,

  The Outlook Express accounts settings are already set according to POPFile requirements, i.e., with mail.server:user The problem is still present    :(

  Any [MailScanner] setting is missing? I tried come back to the proxy chain setting I was using before Avast! update and set it to listen port 7110 adding the respective line in this section but to no avail either. The section is now:

[MailScanner]
DefaultPopServer=127.0.0.1:9110
DefaultSmtpServer=127.0.0.1:25
PopListen=127.0.0.1:7110
StartPop=1
ShowTrayIcon=1
UseDefaultSmtp=0
AutoSetProtection=1

I am using Windows 2000.

 Thanks!

Hello,

  Just to let people now how I (finally) figured out that problem:

  I added the (NEW) line 'PopRedirectPort=7110'  to the '[MailScanner]' section. The port number, of course, is related to my needs. The value is the same as the 'PopListen' port used in the same section. Now Outlook Express is succesfully working as before both with Avast! 4.5 and POPFile 0.22.1

  Long life to Avast!   8)
