Did you run Mail Protection Wizard (from the Start Menu > avast antivirus)?
If you click CRTL+ALt+DEL, do you see ashMaiSv.exe running?

I am using:
- Windows 98
- Outlook Express 6
- AVAST! version 4.1 Home Edition

I get the following error in Outlook Express 6:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop3.hetnet.nl', Server: '127.0.0.1', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

When I run the mail protection wizard (and not running Outlook Express 6!) I get the following error (manually selection):
AVAST is not able to protect your incoming/outgoing mail (IMAP protocol) Error: 10047

Maybe you can help me now?! Please let my know when you like to receive more information.

Click on the Blue 'User's FAQ - Mail Protection' link above and ensure that your email account settings are the same.

MAIL SETTINGS
The server address for both POP and SMTP should be set to 127.0.0.1 with the POP server name set to:
username#pop.isp.com (use the actual username and ISP info) and.... SMTP server name to username#smtp.isp.com

You can go into the Help file within the Avast Scanner and look up Manual configuration.  It will take you through it step by step.  It is not hard to do.

Check the avast help file for Setting up mail Protection. Switch of your email client and run the Mail Protection Wizard - Or you can set it up manually.

You may find it useful to print the instructions to make it easier to follow.

Nope, it does not work. I tried it all, but does not help. The error in my outlook express is still there. I tried the manually installation in the help file....

Does the OE account details in the account/s look like this?
    Incomming mail (POP3) 127.0.0.1
    Outgoing mail (SMTP) 127.0.0.1
  Incoming Mail Server
    Account name:  yourusername#pop3.hetnet.nl
    Password:     *********

    Remember password (ticked)

  Outgoing Mail Server
My server requires authentication (usually ticked,
                                              depending on ISP)

Have got an entry in Task Manager for ashMaiSv.exe ?

Hi,

Am getting this on on a newly installed win98SE system

Win98SE
OE6.00.2800
IE600.2800
Avast 4.6.452
ashMaiSv.exe is running

Mail settings :
    Incomming mail (POP3) 127.0.0.1
    Outgoing mail (SMTP) 127.0.0.1
  Incoming Mail Server
    Account name:  yourusername#pop3.isp.net.au

Have tried setting it manual. Has same error number (4 times. Once for each part of the mail service) on boot.

Any suggestions Other than the onces listed in this tread already, including the link to
Quote
User's FAQ - Mail Protection.
  tried that too.

Thanks :)

Steve, will a search only for the number 10047 without the word 'error' help in anyway?

If you have Windows 98\Me, the change of the login settings is normal while using avast. See http://forum.avast.com/index.php?action=display;board=2;threadid=7913;start=0#msg64228

With Win98 SE you should have:

pop3 server= smtp server = 127.0.0.1
username = mail.server.coml#user or mail.server.com#user@server.com
smtp authentication enabled and the username there = mail.server.coml#user or mail.server.com#user@server.com

Hi Technical,

I am afraid I already searched as best I could Before asking here.

I can resolve the issue by turning the Ethernet in the BIOS ON. (with Ethernet ON there is no error message)
Turning the Ethernet OFF in the BIOS brings the error back.

Avast is set to 'Dialup" under connection.

Have also tried uninstalling whole app and downloading again.
Same result.

Thanks
