Once I got used to it, the jump to 2007 was good for me, being in school...

And only Excel 2007 (and later I presume) can do imaginary number calculations and make fractals :)

Yes but its another gimic, who in all there customers/users are going to use this or a very large percentage of the functions, a very, very small percentage and you would probably need an all swing all dancing spreadsheet to build the graph ;D

Yeah, I don't think many people really use it to full advantage...

And the graph took a while, and a few calculations...still relatively small though...and to think it was done by hand at one point...

If you where using a Vic 20, I could send you "MiniWord" which was a lightweight compared to todays WP systems.
I wrote it in basic and then used a compiler to give it speed. Worked like a charm for me many years ago.

Hi Bob...

Wow, that goes back a ways! ;)

My parents bought one in the early 80's and we had quite a bit of fun with it. :)

God bless :)

Hi folks,

I use abiword also, and it does what it has to do.
Never any problem. Start-up time right,

Thanks for all your suggestions.

I like MS Office 2007 very much. I use this in my home. I don't have any problem with resources in my home PC.

The reason for requesting a light weight word app was that I wanted a program that I can take it to college and use it on multiple college computers.

I have a lot of project where I have to type a lot but the college computers are filled with malware and very slow.

I am even afraid to check my Gmail there.

I am pleased with Abiword  :D

@ ardvark

I think it is better not to tell the IT department because they really don't know anything about malware.

They only know how to block Facebook and MySpace.

Hi...

Do you mean they don't know how to go about removing it? What AV and AS programs do they have installed on their systems? ???

God bless :)

If I understood correctly, you'd be using it strictly for plain-text stuff.  For things like that, I'm quite happy with Notepad, especially now that the old ridiculously low file-size limit is gone (at least on my XP).  If I need something a little fancier, Wordpad will usually do the trick for me.

A few responders mentioned abiword. It was voted by ZD Net as one of the top 25 freebies for 2009.
Packard Motorcars said "Ask the man who owns one". They're not in business anymore.

At my school they don't even care about viruses :(...They have avast 4.7 in it and don't even bother to update them plus sometimes they disable the connection for students not to surf web pages with permissions :-\
