@ ardvark

Hmm...

I have seen Norton on many PC's but when I take my USB disk home, Avast will start screaming.

Hi Chris and Shiw...

You still might want to try addressing this with either the IT departments or the administration office. If nothing else, it might raise more awareness of the problem. :)

It's a hazard for everyone using these systems. :(

God bless :)

I generally don't use any public PC to check my mails because some people have Keyloggers installed on purpose to steal passwords.

Yeah, my college IT dept. is crap.

It is a shame that both of you go to colleges that are probably indirectly responsible for infecting thousands of computers each year because of inept IT departments.

In this day and time, there should be a way to bring criminal charges against such inaction that involves so very many computers.

It's called the sack, if they can't or don't want to address the malware problem, then they simply aren't fit for the job, fire them. There have to be plenty of IT people looking for jobs right now.

My college using Linux for years now, so the IT let the students to take care the systems on each computer for each student group, bassically the IT department don't bother so much with virus.

For the light word processor, we - the students - chose between OpenOffice, Abiword or Lotus Symphony - as they are free, and because we are using Linux on campus.

So have anybodies try Lotus Symphony yet?

My college is from 9 am to 12.30. So it is only around 4 hours.

I am not going to mess up myself and waste my time helping the IT dept.

If you help a computer novice once, they will need help so many other times.

Just now, my friend called me and asked me how to fix his router over the telephone

I told him different routers have different config. and it takes a hell lot of time speaking over the telephone and fixing

So, think about Fixing the college PC's. They will be bugging me and if ever some thing wrong happens and the PC is dead.

It will be added to my fees. ;D ;D ;D

@Chris,

In my college, we are the students who asking for computers to be provided, because not all student own their PCs - we are not economically good enough to have a single computer, only they who come from a wealthier family has a PC/notebook.

So when computers were provided by Campus, they asked us to be responsible for the systems - they maintain the hardware - we provide the and maintain the operating system and programs. We can not buy a Windows for the high price on multi-PCs, so we decided to put Linux. And so we chose free software or open source for this matter - including the providing word processing program :)
