Avast Caused A Blue Screen
« on: January 07, 2010, 03:47:18 AM »
Yesterday, Tuesday, my PC started it's day by coming up and showing a blue screen.  No, I didn't copy the message.  1st thought was "hard drive's going" since that is usually when I've seen a blue screen.  Called Dell and final verdict when THEY found the blue screen message was that Avast caused the error.  So, per Dell, I used Avast's site and copied the Uninstall program.  I also recopied the Install program.  Uninstall seemed to work fine, but when I tried to reinstall it would not because of an error.  Since it didn't work and I had no protection I took the computer down.

Today I downloaded AVG with my laptop and installed that and thought I would use it and forget Avast, but then found out I couldn't get on the internet and thought AVG had caused the problem .  I uninstalled it and decided to try to right Avast.  Per Avast's support I tried Safe Mode and again uninstalled and tried to reinstall but it still would not work.  I tried all the suggestions support offered for the problem in Safe Mode, but the problem still isn't resolved.  I need help please.  I hope someone can help me get things corrected so I can use Avast again.  Thanks for any and all help.

This is the log I copied when it wouldn't reinstall today.

Looks like you tried the on-line installation and some people have had problems with that. You would be best to download the full off-line installation file about 39MB.

Download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall. Ensure that you scroll down and select the avast direct download link for the English version and not Cnet as that is for an on-line installation (not what you want to do). - Direct download for avast Home, English version, http://files.avast.com/iavs4pro/setupeng.exe.
