Cannot access AVAST webpage!
« on: January 08, 2010, 05:21:14 PM »
My computer denies to open any Avast webpage.
Have tried with Firefox (normally in use) and I-explorer.
My PC loads any other page but no avast one (!!!)
Please what can I do?, Have tried to clear any rest of the previous antivirus (AVG) with no positive result.  :'(
Have used and registered Avast 4. After nearly 2 months with my PC off (had to change monitor), an Avast window appears now each time I turn on the PC asking to newly register, but I can do nothing about it: there's no way to the Avast page.
Please HELP!  ???

(Of course am using now my netbook, otherwise I wouldn't be able to reach this Forum   :-[  )

Note.- My PC is 'ASUS', Pentium IV, 80GB ROM, 1,5GB RAM

Use your netbook to register the copy of avast for the other computer. Write down the license number that you can add in the troublesome computer.
Do you use any firewall?
Can you open the hosts file with Notepad and search if there is any mention to avast there? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts_file#Location_and_content

First thanks for your prompt answer, Tech.

Have gone to the link you gave, but understood very little ( :-[ ).
The server I use to get in internet cannot have blocked my PC access to the Avast page, because, I am using the same server with this netbook. The only difference is that my PC uses a direct (cable) connection with the modem. And I use Avast with my netbook without problems. Anyway, (on the link) they don't mention Avast being blocked.
Have taken a look at regedit.exe, but I find myself a bit lost there.  :-[
Any other suggestion, please?
And if I reload the OS? (Win XP; 2002)

Thank you in advance  :)  for your help.

PS. Have no firewall at all on.

Kary, better will be discussing this on General forum and not on the Server one.
Anyway, which is your Windows? XP, Vista, 7?

Open Notepad.
Open C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\ and then the file Hosts (without any extension).
It should be only:
Code: [Select]
# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
::1  localhost
127.0.0.1  localhost

This should be discussed in avast! 4.x Home/Pro:
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2.0

Windows XP Service Pack 3 has been available for over a year and a half plus it provides many Critical Updates and performance improvements.

You need to start Internet Explorer then go to Tools then Windows Update and download all of the available updates.

Go to Control Panel then Automatic Updates then select Automatic (recommended) or at least Notify me but don't automatically download or install them.

Go to Secunia Online Software Inspector then run it to see what applications are vulnerable:

Seems i have a virus in my PC.
Cannot load Microsoft pages now, nor any other antivirus scanner online.
The link you gave me couldn't scan my PC and said maybe my Java applet was not installed.

Please HELP!!!

To ensure that I get all the information this log will need to be attached (instructions at the end) if it is to large to attach then upload to Mediafire and post the sharing link.  If necessary this file can be renamed to OTS.COM

Download OTS  to your Desktop
  • Close ALL OTHER PROGRAMS.
  • Double-click on OTS.exe to start the program.
  • Check the box that says Scan All Users
  • Under Additional Scans check the following:
    • Reg - Shell Spawning
    • File - Lop Check
    • File - Purity Scan
    • Evnt - EvtViewer (last 10)
    • Under the Custom Scan box paste this in
    netsvcs
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe
    /md5start
    eventlog.dll
    scecli.dll
    netlogon.dll
    cngaudit.dll
    sceclt.dll
    ntelogon.dll
    logevent.dll
    iaStor.sys
    nvstor.sys
    atapi.sys
    IdeChnDr.sys
    viasraid.sys
    AGP440.sys
    vaxscsi.sys
    nvatabus.sys
    viamraid.sys
    nvata.sys
    nvgts.sys
    iastorv.sys
    ViPrt.sys
    eNetHook.dll
    ahcix86.sys
    KR10N.sys
    nvstor32.sys
    ahcix86s.sys
    nvrd32.sys
    /md5stop
    %systemroot%\*. /mp /s
    CREATERESTOREPOINT
    %systemroot%\system32\*.dll /lockedfiles
    %systemroot%\Tasks\*.job /lockedfiles

    • Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
    • Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
    • When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
    • Click the Format menu and make sure that Wordwrap is not checked. If it is then click on it to uncheck it.
Please attach the log in your next post.

To attach a file, do the following:
    • Click Add Reply
    • Under the reply panel is the Attachments Panel
    • Browse for the attachment file you want to upload, then click the green Upload button
    • Once it has uploaded, click the Manage Current Attachments drop down box
    • Click on to insert the attachment into your post

I have it already in my mail. To attach it here I have to download it to my netbook... :-\
Is there any infection probable when I pass it through my netbook?  :-[

I was afraid to leave the file in Mediafire. I noticed someone (could not see who) had dowloaded it.
    Thought it was you...

Anyway will upload it to Mediafire in this moment and put it under a password (have seen it's possible).
Then ill give you the password here, ok? (hope it functions).

    Will remain online here.

    (Tks for your patience).
