Mozilla Thunderbird Email Problem
« on: October 26, 2004, 12:27:36 PM »
Hello!, Fantastic update!

However I have a small problem with the mail scanning option.

I use Thunderbird and Spampal. My configuration before the upgrade was:

pop.freeserve.com@127.0.0.1
username: username
Port 9110

smtp
smtp.freeserve.com
port  9025

Thunderbird doesnt seem to be able to connect to my email account now :( And Spampal's icon does not seem to be active when scanning.

Please help!

EDIT - This seems to be working fine now after restoring a saved profile.

putty, the best will be just make everything like SpamPal help says.
Configure the email account as avast! does not exists  8)
New email detection is automatic and do not require user interaction. Anyway, spam killer applications need changed email account settings  ;)

Thanks, I think this might be exactly the right answer for most of the "new" problems with Avast 4.5 mail scan.  ;)

Of course they may exist certain more advanced setups with many spam and antiviral filters linked together. In these situations it may be easier to disable automatic redirect and configure your mail clients as before. Use

AutoRedirect=0

in the MailScanner section of avast4.ini.

Why does avast! not insert a scan note on all incoming mail?
As far as I can tell  have configured it to scan and note incoming mail, but some mail doesn't have the note.
My isp uses SSL/TLS security, but I have tried it with and without that setting.
I just upgraded to Thunderbird 3.0 if that's related.

I really think you should have started a new topic than activate this relic topic that is over 6 years old.

The whole point of SSL (secure encrypted) email is to keep prying eyes out including anti-viruses. Even avast 4.8.1368 can't change that and you need to have a third party interface like STunnel to be able to scan secure email before it gets encrypted.

avast 5 when released has a means to be able to handle secure connections.

I don't want to go into detail in this ancient topic (which is unrelated to your question), if you need more information, please create a new topic, thanks.
