Icon on bottom left corner is gray

I do not know why my icon on bottom corner is gray.  I click on it and it comes up with   Avast AAVM subsystem
detected aRPC error and will not start. Could any one help me.  Thank You

What OS are you using? Can you post a screenshot of the icon? Does the icon spin from time to time (the (a) ball)? Thanks.
