Beginners dummy questions
« on: January 09, 2010, 12:07:08 AM »
Avast prof 4.8, XP SP3,

a) Where is and how to find the Container-Directory ?

b) Win-Explorer right-click file-check: There is no feedback after scan is finished. It's irritating on a fast pc. Solution?

c) Is Avast deleting thunderbird-email, if virus is found?

thx

hanswu,

a) What is container directory? - sorry just never heard about it.

b) It means the file clean - at least according to the last VPS-engine. Why you need report for clean file?

c) It should be yes, if you allowed it, but avast don't scan SSL/TLS (secured) connection. If any virus from email tried to access memory, avast shall stop it.

Sorry, just another newbie :)

a) Sorry for translation failure: in english-version the german "container" is named "All chest files" - "Infected files". Question: Where to find this files on the harddisc in win-xp?

b) A report, at least some feedback, is needed, because scanning a single file is so fast, that there is no reaction on screen visibly for human eyes :-)...yes, really. Imho, it's normal that after a action is finished, specially a virus-scan, a result is shown. Misuse is reduced ...

a)C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\chest

But bear in mind that they are encrypted, extension-less files and you will not ba able to do anything with them outside of the virus chest.

If you mean the sections of the chest, then the only one you need to worry about is 'Infected Files'

b) Right click avast! tray icon --> program settings --> tick 'Show results of explorer extension'
