Resident protection problem
« on: December 14, 2009, 04:49:26 AM »
After installing Avast (free addition although it says demo ) I'm unable to get the resident protection to work. It says disabled and won't set to standard or high. I'm running XP 3

You might check to make sure it's not paused or terminated. Left click the avast! icon. A window should open that says Resident Protection in the upper left-hand corner; if not, look to the bottom of the window and click the Less Detail button and that will take you there. In the upper right there are two buttons that should say Pause and Terminate. If they say Continue or Start then you need to click it to start the Resident Protection. Hopefully that's it but if not then I don't know. ;D

Edit: I just realized you said yours is a demo. You might have the Beta 5 version so I'm not sure if my suggestion will work but hopefully it will help.

If it says its Demo, well, you need to register the software.
Go to the SSL page version and register from there: https://secure.avast.com/scripts/register.php?lang=ENG.  The Registration key is valid for 14 months.
See the tutorial:  http://www.avast.com/files/tutorials/insert_key.htm

Which is your old antivirus (before avast)?

I am having the same problem with the resident protection.  It says disabled.  I have input my License key, but the icon is not in my hardware tray.  I sure can't figure out what to do.

Thanks for your help

Run (double-click) ashAvast.exe from avast folder and the option for adding the license key should appear.
