Carbonite gets kicked out
« on: January 13, 2010, 05:38:25 PM »
I'm  new to Avast. Just installed it. When Windows does an update, and reboots, it kicks my Carbonite out and I have to uninstall and reinstall it (Carbonite). I've tried pausing Carbonite for 24 hours as updates come in the night sometimes, but it still gets kicked out. I'm assuming it's the Avast that's causing the trouble. Is that right? And if so, how do I fix it?

What is Carbonite? Can you post a link to their website?
Do you use any firewall? Any other security program?

Carbonite is an online backup program at http://www.carbonite.com/ . I used to use McAfee for antivirus and the same thing happened with them whenever Windows updated.

Yes, I have Windows Defender operating at same time as Avast. Not sure what to do about that one.

I unchecked the box for Windows Firewall, as I thought Avast covered same things. Is that right?

Hi Anne..

No it doesn't! Avast only covers malware like, viruses, trojans and ad/spyware. You might want to reactivate the firewall right away! :o

God bless :)

Thanks, Ardvark. I've reactivated the firwall. But it does say that 2 or more firewalls running at same time can conflict with each other. Will mine now conflict?

I use Mozy and had troubles also.
But seems yours are different.

No troubles between WD and avast.

avast 4.8 is not a firewall. If you disabled Windows Firewall you did it wrong.

Hi Anne...

Is that statement proceeded by the word "Note" or does the Security Center give the name of another firewall that's running?

God bless :)

Yes, the word Note is there, and no other firewall name is given. Is that okay?
Thanks.
