email scan notes not showing
« on: January 09, 2010, 02:22:34 AM »
Why does avast! not insert a scan note on all incoming mail?
As far as I can tell  have configured it to scan and note incoming mail, but some mail doesn't have the note.
My isp uses SSL/TLS security, but I have tried it with and without that setting.

I just upgraded to Thunderbird 3.0 if that's related. :-\

avast 4.8 does not scan SSL/TSL to do this you need stunnel  www.stunnel.org

Howto: Setup Thunderbird with Avast Antivirus

The new avast v5 (still in beta) can scan SSL

Thunderbird 3.0 has account specific settings to elect SSL/TLS or STARTTLS or None.
If I select "None" will this allow avast! to scan properly?

The problem I was having with Thunderbird just started when I "upgraded" to Thunderbird 3.0.
The new version has some weird security settings, that don't seem to work correctly anyway!
After a lot of frustrations with 3.0, I gave up and reinstalled Thunderbird 2.0.0.23, and all my problems went away!
Including the scan note problem! I have now set my security (in Thunderbird for "TLS if available", and the notes show up!
