Advice -please!
« on: June 17, 2004, 09:27:49 PM »
Hi Guys

I made a post on the original first 1.4.412 update that would it be best if I wait until this is all sorted out before doing the update
then my post was removed from the forum ??

I am STILL running my last update version and still getting database updates on 4.1.396 with no problems
is their ANY reason I should update that is urgent and run the risks of these issues or just stay where I am until we/you know all is sorted out

Please can one of the Big Boys  ;) answer this for me
I see no reason too update/grade but if you tell me my PC is not protected correctly then I will "Obey"

What was your original problem with 4.1.412?
Why did you stay at 4.1.396?

I think it's better update (to 4.1.418 now)  ;D

Hi Tech'

I am glad you replied (also on a side note PLEASE don't go ) !!

Ok its really very simple whenever I get a pop up that there is a new Update
I go to the forum and make sure all is well
but since the very first update from.396 it seemed there were some issues
and now it is 2 updates later and I still see some serious issues
I have NOT updated and am still running .396 (and am getting my database updates no problem)

what I am saying(simple) should I just leave it as is and wait until you are confident that the update is OK it appears that even the .418 is still "iffy"
is the .418 free of the issues and I am just "scared" now :'(
I am an ardent fan of Avast and was so surprised to see the problems

I updated mine but my wife's is still v396 and I also was waiting to see if all the bugs were ironed out before updating hers.We have identical computers so I make sure that the changes I do to mine work before applying them to hers. ::)

Feeling better now... Thanks for support.

Wise decision.
I love danger, so I automatic update my system  ;D
Anyway, I always keep the last setup.exe file. If something very dangerous occur, I can uninstall and install the old one.
Updating I can help avast! to be better and better.

Rick, there is not a program without troubles...
Well, avast is not the one that brings big troubles  8)

I suggest you update to 4.1.418. You won't see a big trouble, if you see any, and we can help you in almost everything here. If not, call louder Vlk and he will be here to help you  8)

well we all go through time like that I run a forum and list and know the feeling
you really are the reason I went stayed with avast (outside of the great utility) I always knew if the slightest thing went wrong on my PC you or VLK would be helpful (as you have in the past to me and countless others)

No, I think you're wise and correct.
On computer land, there is no 'lesson learned'.
Do not touch your computer if it is running... If you need so, have a solution to go back  8)

Rexdal,

I am not sure where this thread is going, but each new version is designed to correct a problem with an earlier one.....
so in keeping the 396 because it works for you, denies you of the benefit of the "bugs" that have been worked out in later versions.

The present version is 418 and it seems to be very stable.

Update to the 418 and if you have problems, then we can sort them out and fix them.  I would rather see you have the most current version running.

    thanks for the feedback
I did update to 418 and so far all seem Ok
as far as not understanding where the thread was going .. I think it was simple and ONE many others I speak to find themselves in the situation with updates
do you update JUST because they put one out there (not avast but many others)
but in this case it did include avast I saved myself what seem many problems by waiting and not putting 416 on my PC
I am sure many other wish they had - I do try to keep a backup download of the installer - I just went through this with the new crap Zone alarm 5.0 update
totally play Havoc on my PC as well as 80% of their forum so I am back to the 4.0 version and all is well again

I tend to side with caution as is recommended by most on the list - download a new update no matter which after checking the forums etc to make sure all is well

I guess "to each their own"

thank again Techie
