How avoid Avast! GUI in startup?
« on: January 20, 2010, 04:24:02 PM »
How can I to avoid that Avast v. 4.8 is activated in startup [ASHDISP.EXE (avast! service GUI component)]? I want that it is enable delayed through "Startup Delayer" application.

Thanks in advance.

The GUI serves no security function so trying to delay that would be pointless as the avast services would still be loaded. avast has a self-defence module which is likely to prevent you doing this.

Why is it that you wish/need to do this is probably the question that needs to be asked ?

If "GUI serves no security function" it should be allowed in settings to enable it (or no) in startup. Like I want to have the control over the startup itens (I use Startup Delayer to do that) I don't agree that "trying to delay that would be pointless". But I understand dissimilar self-opinions.

Thanks for the info about the question.

You're welcome.

It is the interface to the on-access scanners, starting SUI, on-demand scan and avast settings, so without it there are lots of things that you can't access, so it is pretty essential even if it doesn't serve a security function.

All avast services, processes, registry entries, folders and files, etc. are protected by the self-defence module.

I'm missing something here, I think?  When I boot up in the morning (or for whatever reason reboot later on), all I see of avast is the tray icon.  I only see the GUI if I choose to open it from the icon's menu.

Are you guys maybe referring to "starting" Avast (i.e., opening its GUI) with the desktop shortcut-icon that the installer adds?  I just removed that one, since avast starts up with Windows anyway (without the GUI, till I choose to open it).

The avast icon acts as an interface to the Simple User Interface 'SUI' (the start avast antivirus, you mention).

Just check the Task Manager and you will see the other avast processes, they begin with ash or asw.
