[Solved] Ver.5 WebShield OptinProcess setting where?
« on: January 20, 2010, 01:51:08 PM »
Hello,

Could someone please tell me, where should I put OptinProcess setting for the WebScanner in version 5?

(as I did for ver 4.8, as suggested here http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=48779.msg411809#msg411809)

Also is at present auto update is disabled?
thanks...

There is a new .ini for that, WebShield.ini

- avast! 5 .ini file locations, C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Alwil Software\Avast5\WebShield.ini

Ah! new ini... got it
Thanks DavidR  :)

However, auto update still not working  ??? Is auto update working for you?
(manual update does work though.)

I can't recall, a lot has been going on, but I believe so I think I heard the new female voice. Check the windows event viewer, anti virus section, it should be under the info type item. There are a couple of auto update entries there for me, see image.

Though you may find many errors listed, don't worry unduly about errors not displayed to the screen.

Hello DavidR,

It seems, if I uncheck "I only connect to Internet using Dial-up modem", in settings->updates, then the auto-update works, .... the strange thing is that parameter is checked in ver 4.8 and no problem with auto-updates.

Well, I don't have those log entries.
Actually I don't even have a "anti virus section", (Application,System,Security and Internet Explorer).

Yes, there was a "anti virus section" in ver 4.8 , but not anymore with ver5 (I did a fresh install of ver5).

And thanks again....[thumbs up]

You're welcome.

I didn't uninstall 4.8 I installed over the top with 5.0.377 and the antivirus section is still in the windows event viewer. I cleared it out yesterday and was still empty today I had the "I only connect to Internet using Dial-up modem" as I did in 4.8 and tried unchecking it and a few minutes later I got an auto update, strange.

In XP Pro this is the log that would contain information on VPS updates, auto and manual C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5\Setup\setup.log, so you should be able to check that in future.
