Avast 5 manual updates
« on: January 20, 2010, 07:03:25 PM »
I have a friend who doesn't have an internet connection. He is using Avira and I asked him to install Avast.

I was thinking if there is a way to update the definitions manually

I know there was a way to do this with Version 4, and there is the update exe that was used before, but it seems as though it hasn't been updated http://www.avast.com/en-gb/download-update

This says it is still for version 4.

I presume someone will work out a way of manually copying and replacing the update (similar to the replacement of the 400.vps file in 4)

In short, I am not too sure if it is ready yet...

You can also try to update the VPS here: http://www.avast.com/download-update.  This is an executable file that will install the full virus database, you will need to disable the Avast self-defense module (in Avast 5) to be able to replace the existing virus database.
