No mail scanning
« on: June 21, 2004, 12:52:01 PM »
Hello,

I downloaded Avast Home Edition about one month ago and I'm very satisfied of it  :)
Nevertheless, I have a problem with the detection of viruses in attached files (in mails) :
I have correctly configured my e-mail account to be scanned (POP server), but it doesn't work : I sent to myself the eicar.com test file and received NetSky.P, but they are not detected by Avast while receiving or clicking on the message. Of course if I try to run the apps, avast prevents it.
The monitor program shows "0 files tested" after receiving messages.
I'm running 98 SE, Outlook Express 6 and the last version of Avast and its VPS.

Your help would be very appreciated  :D
Cheers.

If you click CTRL+ALT+DEL did you see ashMaiSv.exe running?
Which is your sensitivity level for the Internet (Normal, High or Custom)?

Set your internet mail from normal to high and Avast catch the virus ;)

I set the level detection to high, but it still doesn't work. I can't see the process you named running and when I want to have an icon in the tray while scanning, this icon doesn't appear... And I get no tag in infected or non-infected messages whereas this option is checked in high level...
Thanks a lot for your help  ;)

I would suggest to "reinstall" the mail protection. First, close Outlook Express and run the Mail Protection Wizard. Now, make it remove the protection from all your accounts. Then, run it again and select "Automatically protect all my accounts". Does it help?

No, it doesn't resolve the problem  :(
I still don't get nor the warning nor the tag in the messages.

Do you have any spam killer or proxy filter already configurated in your system?
Can you post your email account configurations (without the password and personal data...)?

Do you have a firewall? Proxy filter? Spam Killer application?
Can you receive/send mail if avast is not installed?

No, I have none of the logs you listed. I can receive mail if Avast! is not installed.   ???

So, definetively, are your email accounts settings when using avast.
Can you run the Mail Protection Wizard, protect all your accounts, boot and see what you get?

I think Technical was looking for your actual e-mail settings
Substitute genaric names and don't use your real pass word.
