As long as there are old hardware and Linux. I think Firefox won't be extinct.

Firefox is going to the grave of Netscape  :o

The real reason why Firefox is slowing down in its development is because there aren't any good ideas, the developers are short of innovation.

They can't think like the developers of Opera who invented quite a few features that all browsers are using now.

They need to get more creative developers....

Nowadays, Google Chrome updates are fewer compared with few months ago.

Google Chrome success is going to be short lived because the future development of Google OS may make it more resource hungry and heavier.

Just like ad aware went from a solid product to a behemoth...

Maybe I am wrong. Correct me.

The choice is protection rather than speed :)

:D All right!!! You convinced me to give it a try to Chrome and YES it is fast, it starts and loads double the speed of FF. For security, I may solve it using it only sandboxed and anyway by using Avast web shield you are already somewhat protected. Only problem some online banking site are only recommending FF and IE 8. But Chrome can load and  can perfectly handle these https pages too. I guess it's a question of being accustomized to it. ;D

Chrome is already sandboxed  ;)

I am getting fed up of people using JavaScript engine speeds to decide which is the better browser. There is milliseconds between in real life applications if that. The SunSpider test uses a lot of heavy JavaScript to really push the browser. By All accounts the engine in Firefox 4 is faster than V8 and Opera has their new JavaScript engine in alpha not to mention their new Presto engine.

I remember the good old Spectrum/Commodore days of waiting for your programs to load from an audio tape. I also remember the dial up days, now long gone for me, where you could be waiting up to a minute for a badly designed image heavy site to load. These days people want everything instantly. So they get everything happening fast, emails read and replied to, banking done and so on. What did they rush all this to go and do? Usually either sit in front of the TV or go on Facebook for an hour or two.

oh, you've tested Firefox 4 already, cool  8) thanks for sharing details  ;D this said current release is Firefox 3.6 and the difference in speed isn't milliseconds: Chrome is, depending on what pages are loaded, between two and three times faster then Firefox 3.6...and this is a "real world" observation. With a comparable amount of extensions loaded, Chrome starts almost instantly, while Firefox takes ages, as it's always been... another comment may be ?  :D

Should of expected a troll answer from you.

Real world application means using Gmail or some other Javascript heavy site that is actually going to be getting used regularly and not some test designed to push things to their limit. And yes some tests were done on a pre-alpha of Firefox 4 just as the pre-alpha of Opera 10.5 is available.

Oh and Firefox on here takes about a second to start up. Maybe you need to invest in a faster computer or declutter it a bit. You know, run CCleaner to get rid of some temp files and maybe clean the registry.
