Internet Explorer fonts
« on: January 22, 2010, 09:51:01 PM »
am I the only one seeing that difference, never noticed that before. Just reinstalled IE in Win7 to see the script shield in action  ;D and noticing again this difference with Firefox. I'm sure it hasn't always been that bad in IE...wonder what happened, I never modified anything with the fonts there...

firefox first:

and IE now:

yeah so it's not just on my system, thanks for posting. It's been like that for several weeks now...something must be broken in IE...about the rendering of fonts I mean. There's a loss of resolution in IE fonts.

Sorry I don't get what the difference is ???

Surely they will always be some minor differences as FF may use a different font and font size to IE.

Mine Firefox first, IE8 on XP Pro second.

oh come on david, there's an obvious difference, lack of resolution in IE on your screenshots too like in mines and the ones mathboyx215 posted  ;) ... it's not a matter of size, here the font size in FF and IE is the same...
Ok may be a tad smaller in IE but the lack of resolution is still there. You can increase it in IE to have an exact size match, doesn't change anything, the lack of resolution is still obvious.

As I said I don't see any massive difference.

Yes IE isn't as crisp/sharp as FF, but the difference for me isn't a problem.

I use a large TFT and don't have the font size large, so for me it isn't an issue. However, there is a bigger issue, excuse the pun, IE8 doesn't display the full google page information that Firefox does, that really is noticeable when you compare them side by side.

Stranger still in Avant browser an IE clone, displays the layout in full.

the only difference I see in IE is an ad for Chrome on the left hand top corner. Otherwise all is there here, like in Firefox...There's even an advantage to IE, when narrowing the window, the page content is properly collapsed and you still see everything, while in FF the right hand part disappear without even an horizontal bar to scroll it. That's a bug there's always been in FF when you don't use the default theme (some rare custom themes don't have this issue).
