Avast free edition (Version 5.0.418) and WebRoot Spy Sweeper
« on: February 13, 2010, 02:46:02 AM »
Hi guys this is my first post here  ;).

I just recently upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate and was wondering whether WebRoot SpySweeper would conflict with Avast?

Ty in advance  :)

Well I haven't seen anything in the forums about it, but since avast 5.0 isn't that long in the tooth, I don't know how popular spysweeper is to see it being on systems with avast 5.0 and win7.

There has recently been an issue with MBAM paid version which runs resident and both avast/Alwil and MBAM have consulted and there is already a fix in the version you are using. MBAM also had/has a similar issue with MSE.

However, avast has generally worked well with other anti-spyware applications. I have SAS Pro running resident and no issues.

I am looking to uninstall Windows Defender. Where can I find that program you mentioned or another good one that is compatible with Avast?

Well if you already have spysweeper and your happy with it try it and see if they work together.

Don't worry about reported tracking cookies they are a minor issue and not one of security, allow SAS to deal with them though. - See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_cookie.

I don't think you can uninstall Windows Defender. You might be able to in Windows 7.

I used to use SpySweeper but it started conflicting with my antivirus software, first Trend Micro then Norton. I don't know about avast!.
