Hello,

Problem: Can't perform full system scan for already 2 days.
Symptoms:
1) Full scan processes not more than 85820 files (~15,3Gb). No matter how long scan runs.
1.1) First attempt: 85800 files, scan itself lasted ~00:01:31
1.2) Second attempt: 85810 files, scan itself lasted ~00:01:13
1.3) Third attempt: 85820 files, scan itself lasted ~1:25:44, but duration between start/stop was somewhere around 9 hours. No luck :(
1.4) Forth attempt: 85820 files, scan itself lasted ~03:41:18, but duration between start/stop was somewhere around 13 hours. No luck :(
2) Different settings of the "persistive cash" doesn't influence on the scan freezes.
3) During scans both cores of my CPU are 100% busy with AvastSvc32.exe.
4) Even after scan was stopped, AvastSvc32.exe still consumes ~100% of the CPU.
UPDATE: I have a dump of the AvastSvc32.exe in this state. Wasn't able to kill the process, the only thing that helped to release my CPU is the reboot.

Tech specs:
Avast version: 5.0.377
Windows Seven Ultimate x64
4Gb RAM
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400

Please help, as the situation is really frustrating... :(

You say you have a dump of AvastSvc in the frozen state... could you please upload it to our FTP?
(ftp.avast.com/incoming).

Hello Igor,
Thanks for fast response.

It's being uploaded right now to ftp.avast.com/incoming/enexy . Please give 40 minutes from now the upload to be finished.

Wov... thanks a lot for the dump. I found and fixed the problem... quite an ancient bug, present since avast! 4... but manifested now and here.
The fix should be included in tomorrow's virus definitions update.

Hello Igor,

The fix should be included in tomorrow's virus definitions update.

After virus definition update up to 100122-0 things became better, but there is still space for improvement.
Symptoms:
1) Full scann freezes after 86000 files (180 files more with the new definition). It is 15,4Gb of 42Gb used at C drive.
2) AvastSvc.exe still consumes CPU even after the scan is stopped. But now it consumes only 50% of 2 cores (2 times less with new definition).

I have a fresh dump of AvastSvc.exe process. Shall I upload it to the same place?

Sorry, the virus definition update wasn't released yet (100122-0 was compiled shortly after midnight, the fix is not there yet).
I was told the new virus definition update will probably be released around 10pm CET, i.e. in 3 hours (hopefully).

Okey, but anyway, situation is better now. I'll let you know as soon as I have new definition.

Thanks! :)
