Still to many problems with 5.0.377 and XP3
« on: January 24, 2010, 02:31:24 AM »
5.0.366 was constant BSOD's, Based on Vik's response I loaded 5.0.377 to see how it did and still had intermiddant BSOD's. 5.0 is still not stable in XP3 envirment. I finally went back to 4.8 for it's stability, at least during tax time. The guys have more work to due on 5.0, at least in XP enviroment.

I guess I'm lucky then as I have it in XP Pro SP3 and no problems, so this can't be an across the board issue with XP. But what it could be is somewhat of a mystery.

Did you not send Vlk the dump files for the BSODs on 5.0.377 ?

I have had mixed results on my Window$ XP Pro $P3 system.

A minor fuck-up with the installation freezing right at the end with 'Error: cannot contact server' was the first bug. Manual reboot and everything seems to be ok.

The only other thing is Avast seems to be raping Firefox ---> http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=54176.0

Thank Christ I've not had any BSODs!

Hope that helps!

I've have 5.0.377 IS on 3 office machines with XP Pro SP3 since last week, all working flawlessly but they may not be being "extended" by our users.

I had the slow connection (or pages not loading fully, or at all) and I traced it back to the 3rd party firewall.

If you have one, remove any old avast entries and on reboot it should ask for new rules when avast runs. Online armor will stop the avastui loading even if you set it to trust/allow until next boot.

Maybe this helps, maybe not.

You can thank Him for a WHOLE lot more than that! See my first signature link below. ;)

Can we watch the language a bit? :)

God bless :)

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm seems there is still a lot of bugs with avast 5. maybe they might get most of these unstability, slowdown issues and BSODs on the next program update or maybe the next one after the next well i hope so. all i wanna say is y isn't the bahavior shield taking any action same goes to the heuristics.

It has been noted by quite a few users on these forums that the upgrade path from 4 to 5 isn't working anything like it should. It has been recommended that everybody uninstalls version 4 completely, using the cleaner tool if necessary, then installs version 5 from scratch.

My install of version 5 with xp home sp3 is working great.

Can't remember what the cleaner tool is called, I'm sure somebody will chip in...

regards, Gizbar.

You should try to do a clean install, when i read all the comments on this forum, its better to uninstall first & do a clean install of v.5

How to uninstall our software using aswClear.exe:   http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility

What service pack do you have on your vista? some people did a upgrade to SP2 and solved the problem with avast.
Avast Running fine on my Windows 7 computer and also on my notebook with XP sp3
On my wife's notebook with vista 32bit SP2 no issues so far.
