Need recommendation for Graphic Card for LED TV
« on: January 24, 2010, 11:32:50 AM »
I have bought a new LED TV which is Samsung UE40B6050.

I will use this TV as PC monitor for watching streaming media and mkv/divx/dvd/blue-ray movies .

basic features of the TV :
REFRESH RATE: 100 Hz
SCREEN SIZE: 40"
VIDEO CONNECTORS: AV,Component Video,VGA-sub,3 x HDMI,1 SCART,
AUDIO CONNECTORS: Audio out,Headphone out,
MAX. RESOLUTION: 1920x1080
Image Aspect Ratio: 16:9
Connectors type: 1 x AV, 4 x audio, 1 x Component video, 1 x SCART, 1 x RGB, 1 x VGA, 3 x HDMI, 1 x USB

I will not have to buy a PC or laptop that enables me set up this TV and the monitor. I am seeking the best streaming media experience with the new computer (to be bought) and this TV.

What will be your recommendation for the processor and the graphic card? Could you please suggest me a few models to enable me do further research? Laptop would preferable to a desktop PC.

Presently I have connected this TV to an old Dell Inspiron laptop and connected through s-video cable. I am not happy with the video quality. Will HDMI connection help?

HDMI cable will work better than S-Video. When you mention the performance you'd like out of a graphics card, it's available for around $1,000. I don't think you want to go that high so consider some of the tests ran by the independent testers like PC World.
Packard Motorcars said "Ask the man who owns one". They're not in business anymore.

I am looking for high performance HTPC and I ready to invest anything upto USD 2500:-. What do you suggest?

What is your opinion on Dell Inspiron Zino with following specs?

1) AMD X2 6850E 1,8 GHz, 512 KB
2) 64 bit Win7Home
3) 4 096 MB 800 MHz DDR2
4) 512 MB ATI® Radeon™ HD 4330-graphic card

Hi...

For just the graphics card? If so, wow! You can get a nice system for that amount. ;)

Here is another thread on the subject that may help. :)

God bless :)

What about the following system (ASRock ION 330HT-BD/ Black)?

1) Intel® Atom™ 330 (Dual core)
2) NVIDIA® ION™ graphics processor
3) 2GB RAM
4) No OS included. I can install Ubuntu and other media center programs

This system costs me 66% of the above system. I am not sure how Intel® Atom™ 330 (Dual core) is as opposed to AMD X2 6850E 1,8 GHz, 512 KB.

Hi...

I would get at least 4 GB's of memory and go with a higher quality motherboard. Also, I wouldn't go with Ubuntu on this, better to get Windows 7.

God bless :)
