Help.

Avast 5.0.377 installed on 3 pc's. 2 work great and low memory and cpu demands. Thats what i want!!!!
However on 3rd pc a dell gx260 with windows xp sp3 (which has run avast 4.8 and other brands of av such as avg free) loads and runs ok but as soon as reboot the pc it loads the desktop and then whooosh black screen and pc is like its rebooting. starts again and if left same  problem. if go into safe mode and uninstall AVast 5 then reboot and its all ok.
have done a pc clean up with ccleaner and a registrey clean as well with ccleaner and pc runs all other programs ok.
very strange considering avast 5 runs on 2 other machines very well.

any clues?

thanks

minsik.

If you have 4.8 installed, remove it completely.

Then do a fresh install of 5.0.377 using the "Custom" install choice,
and UNcheck the Behavior Shield. It has been the cause of this behavior
numerous times in the past, so it is the first component you should
remove from the install to see if it helps.

thanks for that advice.

reinstalled with no behaviour and its working ok. one strange thing, no tray icon yet it told me it had updated the defs with a popup.

in the taskbar properties and icons to show section there were 2 avast 5 icons and even when show all the time was set they refused to show an taskbar icon till in avast 5 i disabled the fancy icon features.

then it showed up ok. strange fruit from the avast tree.

thanks again and at least the basics are working i will have to keep my behaviour limited as the avast behaviour module is not there i suppose?   :)

Minsik thanks you .

You're welcome.

Don't be too concerned about having the Behavior Shield deactivated.
It's a new component in v5 which wasn't there in v4. So if you felt
well-protected using v4 you should feel just as protected or more
so using v5 even without the Behavior Shield. The other components
are enhanced in v5 over v4, so you still have better protection.

Great help so thank you kind sir.

5 seems so much faster less memory needs and yet has lots of features when some minor bugs get sorted out it will be unbeatable.
Even at this early stage and with some problems i am for it.

keep up the good work and i am sure it will win awards soon.
