Thanks for the reply and the linked helped answer my question.  Actually common sense tells me there is an improvement (admittedly not noticeable) for why bother disabling them if not for that reason?

I really wouldn't know about performance increases etc. as I have only every had them all on, even in 4.8...
I also think it would depend on the specs of your system, ie the more powerful the system, the less you would notice it...

gain must not be amazing...take a look at avastsvc CPU/RAM/virtual in task manager if you want to see the difference by disabling the shields one by one but again, don't expect miracles.
