I have been getting the blue screen of death consistently, several times a day for the past few days, since I upgraded to Avast Internet Security 5.0 from whatever trial version they offered a month or two ago.
I submitted a trouble ticket to their support system 2 days ago ... and I attached 3 of my most recent minidump files for their review.
Much to my dismay, I have not received a response.
I downloaded BlueScreenView based on information I found in this forum, and see that Avast is causing many of the crashes.
Bug Check string: DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL
Bug Check code: 0x100000c5
Caused by Driver: aswMon2.SYS
File Description:avast! File System Filter Driver for Windows XP
File version: 5.0.374.0
So at this point, what I want to do is uninstall this software which is obviously not working on my system, and for which I am not getting acceptable technical support.
My question is: can I just use the Uninstall option that comes with the software? or do I have to jump through hoops like Norton requires and use extra removal tools. I would ultimately like to reinstall their free version. I used it for a while and it was great. (or I would like to get a fixed driver)
Please advise.
Also, who do I talk to about getting a refund? I can't seem to get in touch with anyone!
