Avast 5 377 can't scan

Hi, I just updated to the new Avast 5 when I discovered that for some reason... it won't scan! The installation didn't present any errors or anything, but when I access the scanning tab nothing shows up. Or when I try the right click quick scan option, a big empty window shows up and nothing seems to happen.

Any clues on how to fix this?

Oh, and I've also noticed that the update function doesn't work either. When I try to update, nothing happens.

Try repair

For a repair of avast. Windows, Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button from the pop-up window, scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.



did you have any antivirus program before installing avast?
have you removed it?
If any, did you run the removal tool for that program?  http://uninstallers.blogspot.com/

This is the exact same problem i have, i installed it today, i thought it might be that i didn't uninstall avast 4.8, but that disappeared before i even begun installing avast 5 (found out avast 5 has a auto uninstaller) Repair didn't work either and i got no error messages =S Auto update worked for me, but yeah there are no buttons or anything on the scan options, custom scan didn't work either. If anyone can help, please do!

Did you reboot ?
Some people report having to reboot a couple of times.

I rebooted several times but the scanner still remained blank.

I just uninstalled and then reinstalled avast 5 (i think as my internet was off it didn't download the VPS and it wouldn't even turn on, i did manage to fix that) However even after the reinstall the scanner still doesn't work..i read it could be to do with it replacing the avast 4.8, but thats now gone aswell, it's strange.
