[5.0.393] Computer unresponsive [SOLVED]
« on: January 27, 2010, 04:42:36 PM »
Hello there :)

I've just experienced a full pc freeze on my XP SP3 machine. My puter became completely unresponsive, even mouse was not moving.
I've invoked a manual memory dump. I am going to compress it and send it to your ftp when it has finished dumping.

The freeze occured when avast has almost finished its instalation.

Best regards

Yes please submit the dump as soon as you can... am eager to see it. Glad the CrashOnCtrlScroll trick worked.

Thanks much

I don't know what has gone wrong but I cannot find the dump file in the windows folder. The only dump file located there is dated at 2010.01.15 :-[.

Shall I check the option "replace all existing files" (or something like that) in the Startup and Recovery settings?

I'll try to get another dump.

The full (or kernel dump) is always only one - MEMORY.DMP.
I guess you can rename the existing one so that you'll know when a new one is created.

What is the "CrashOnCtrlScroll trick"?

How can you invoke a manual "dump"? It doesn't involve having eaten a nasty vindaloo yesterday does it?

Would it help if I also sent a dump to Alwil? (That is not meant ironically).

I don't know if my dump is still needed but, nevertheless, I'm uploading it to your ftp.

The file is called Silent_dump.7z. It should be yours in a little over an hour.

The full (or kernel dump) is always only one - MEMORY.DMP.
I guess you can rename the existing one so that you'll know when a new one is created.
Had I known that, I wouldn't have deleted the dump and blue-screened my little lappy once again 8) :P.
