Avast 5 Internet Security not accepting license.dat file supplied to me when I bought the whole "avast! Internet Security 5.0 (3 PCs, 2 years)" package. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium x64, and Windows XP Home Edition x86. It does the exact same thing on both Operating Systems. I go to insert the key and it tells me "License.dat is not a valid avast! license file" or "License.avastlic is not a valid avast! license file." I had tried it with both names since the download was .dat, and the instructions for inserting the license said .avastlic. This is rather frustrating since it's the same issue on both Win7, and WinXP. I really like avast! and refuse to use something else, but it just sucks that when I can actually get one of the versions with more protection, I can't even use the license that I paid for. :( Anyone having this problem?

No, and it sounds suspiciously like a scam.

The license file for avast! 5 Internet Security is only ever called 'License.avastlic'
If you open the file with notepad (NB! Make a copy of the file first in case you accidentally edit it), you should see a section like this:

# Name of product: avast! Internet Security
#
Feature=AV_AIS

#
# License creation date: Jan xx, 2010
#
Issued=xxxxxxxxxx

#
# License expiry date: <never expires>
#
ValidThru=0

#
# Update license expiry date: Jan xx, 2011
#
UpdateValidThru=xxxxxxxxxx

#
# Number of licensed items
#
LicenseCount=3

If I remember correctly 'license.dat' is the license format for avast! 4.8 WHS.

Nope, I opened it up earlier to check it out, and this is what is contained within.

I bought it straight from the avast website. http://www.avast.com/internet-security <-- That's the page I was on, and went through the second option that had "-25% / Buy and Save" on the button. I replaced some numbers and letters with ... just incase it is a real key for something

I'd contact 'support@avast.com' quoting youir "ALWIL Software License File" number and/or your avast! online purchase order number.
They should reply within 24 hours.

Just a question, do you happen to use encryption on your drive? We have identified a problem in the current version of avast that prevents the engine from importing license files from encrypted volumes.

Thanks

Nope, I run everything pretty much exactly as is installed by Windows, never wanted to change any setting like that, no need for me anyways.
