Hi

Just done a spyware clean on my system and found adware in my freeware copy of Avast, could somebody please confirm whether this is a known procedure.

Please advise.

Can you please rephrase? Are you suggesting that avast Home Edition contains some kind of adware?

I am not suggesting anything, I am merely pointing out to the forum the results of a spyware scan of my system which concluded that it had found 2 files, one of which was in Avast namely "ATTUNE" which it tells me is Adware.

You need to be specific, and detailed...

1) Which adware program are you using?

2) What was the exact filename or regkeys that were found? (specifics)


Now given this information, I should be able to help you.. So please provide it.  Because for one, Adware scanners are KNOWN to give tons of false positives.. For another, its not uncommon for spyware companies to copy files to various random locations on your hard drive, specifically trojan downloaders.

I use adaware and spybot search & destroy and neither report adware in avast.

As Kobra mentioned we will need information in order to help.

As you can see.....there are strong supporters of Avast here!  

Avast does not have any spyware or adaware.  Trust me.

I have been informed that a download site MAY be responsible for "piggybacked" adware.  I am trying to isolate the download site.

I have used most of the common adware and anti spyware utilites against Avast and Avast is clean as a whistle!

Please let us know:
the program you used to check Avast
the exact filename and extension discovered as adware
the download site you obtained Avast from. (it is important to know if you dowloaded it from an Avast location)

We work together here for the common good.  If there is a problem that we do not know about, then we must fix it.

Help us to do that.

Before we go any further on this matter, I would like to make it crystal clear I am not some "overnight try it for the first time then rubbish it merchant", I have been using Avast for a considerable period of time even when the only version you seemed to be able to get was Avast32, I have quite frequently recommeded Avast to other people praising what you get for nothing, so I am as keen as anybody else to clear this matter up.

As requested I have copied the report from the program concerned, which shows I hope all the relevant details including the name of the program, as far as where I got my copy of Avast from it was sometime ago. but off the top of my head I believe it was one of the computer magazines.

Well, this matter is completely clear (as already discussed here).
The report is a false alarm from Spy Cleaner.
The mentioned module, Lang.dll, doesn't contain any executable code (appart from the common DLL initialization code that's in virtually every DLL) - it contains only the English resources - dialogs, menus, text, ... etc. So, it certainly cannot be a spyware.

Good morning.

Firstly amd,  please do not take things so personal.  Questions need to be asked and we have no way of knowing you level of understanding.

Secondly...I do not understand the comment about what I get for "nothing".  Many of us pay for the Pro version and are free to use Avast Home because we can.  I am glad to hear that you have been with Avast since the "32"version.
