My first skin (Final Preview)
« on: June 23, 2004, 10:31:57 PM »
Ok here it is. This is just a beginning of this very early preview,i need to place local\removable and folder selection somewhere and check needed space for those sliders. I also hope Sasha will help me with buttons and display (status) area.
I have double state buttons prepared too but this is still far away ;)

Cool! Looks good. Nice and clean. I wish I knew how to make skins.

RajZors not happy working on his tool  ;D now he's working on his skin  ;D

Nice work though.

- Tipton, with so much talent in these forums making skins, it hardly seems worth trying to match it (for me certainly).

Nice, I'm delighted to see more people rolling out their own skins.

One note (I've said this before but I'm saying it again): if possible, please don't put static (English-language) text to the skin. It makes the skin much harder to use in non-English avast versions... :)

Thanks.

Yeah i know, but this is by design. Don't know how could make it look like those Pro interfaces without such specific text.

Here is almost finished second preview.
Its damn hard to make all those graphics and the are not even in the usable form of interface, just how it suppose to look in the end.
Then i'll have to slice out or replace those that suppose to be different in specific state. Long way to the end and i impressed Sasha can make so many great skins in so short time.

PS: Yeah i know i don't have play/pause/stop buttons ;)
I'll have to extend the window a bit :)

Weee i managed to finish the preview. I also have most of the graphics except buttons (i really don't know how to make over/pressed/normal buttons) and those dialogs and some radio buttons.

Here is the image:

Any suggestions?

PS: Sasha could you make me those over/pressed/normal buttons?

Well, sorry RejZor, I have so much things to do these days and I spend every single spare minut that I can find on making avast! skins, and also finishing few WEB site projects I already started... But, that doesn't look so bad, 'cause I already made two skins for you, one of them is even named  by your nick name... Isn't that nice ?

Making states of the buttons is easy... draw normal state, and then you just have to transform that image to something else... let's say, you want your button to be little brighter in "OVER" state, just make it little bit brighter... if you want to see button in "PRESSED" state, make it little bit darker, that's all. Of course, there are lot of "tricks", so you can play with button's depth, emboss etc.

The biggest problem of all is I don't know what size your buttons will be. Every button state should be exactly the same size as "NORMAL" state, but on the other hand, all those different buttons doesn't have to be same size... there are those little few things that you should think of.

Cheers !

Thanks for the tip. I'll use glow effect i guess :)

What about transparent stuff? Can i use transparency in TGA images (like for PNG) or i really have to make an extra alpha map for that? Paintshop Pro isn't my best tool to play with, especially when it comes to multiple layers (never used them).

Yes, you can use alpha chanel inside TGA, but I don't recomend that. Just search for some Tipton's earliest posts. He had so much trouble with displaying TGAs with alpha channel on his system. Anyway, I used TGA only inside one of those skins made by me (Laah-Ra), but I immediately removed TGA as soon as Tipton reported his problem... If you think about Lite-On skin... I have to surprise you my friend... no TGA's with alpha channel at all. Martin can confirm that, 'cause he can "open" every single skin I sent to Alwil. Transparency effect I achieved just by drawing every second pixel in those sliding pannels... yeah, huge job, but I wanted something to be totaly different... and I think I succeded...
