Hi,
I had Avast Version 4.8 on my Compaq Presario SR5820AN Desktop PC and it was working fine. I then updated to Avast Version 5, which also worked fine, although I got a message on startup saying 'License Key Not Entered' even though it was still registered according to the information in the Maintenance tab - and I could not find a way to re-enter the license key.
I then had to do a system restore to fix an unrelated issue (the computer had begun to spontaneously restart for no apparent reason while I was in Internet Explorer). The system restore was to a point prior to updating to Avast Version 5 and as a result, Avast stopped working and I got error messages when I tried to open it. I updated the program to Version 5 again and it worked fine, though I still got messages saying 'License Key Not Entered' on startup. I followed the instrucitons on another thread to attempt to fix this - first, I went into Uninstall or change a program and tried repair. This did not get rid of the message. I then tried uninstalling and reinstalling Avast. I uninstalled Avast and on restart, I STILL got the 'License Key Not Entered' message. I then reinstalled Avast Version 5 from the website. The installation process did not complete as I got a message after the download had completed saying that another program required a restart and continuing with the Avast 5 installation before restarting the computer could cause problems. I restarted the computer and cannot now figure out how to complete the installation process?
Avast is no longer listed in the programs in the Uninstall or Change a program window. In the Program Files folder, there is a Alwil Software folder containing a folder for Avast4 and an Avast5 folder. I've tried running the application files in both thes folders - the Avast5 one has no result (nothing opens), the Avast4 one asks for the license key but when I enter the key that I originally recieved, I get a message saying that it is invalid. What do I do next??
